Archives

UKOGL has an extensive database of geophysical, geological and other data for the UK onshore comprising:

  • Post-stack 2D and 3D seismic data in image and digital format (SEGY)
  • Pre-stack seismic data and supporting acquisition data (available for output costs)
  • Well data including tops, reports, paper and digital (LAS) log data, directional data
  • Industry and government reports and studies

Displays of the geographical coverage, along with supporting information and selection tools, for all UKOGL data can be accessed via the UKOGL Interactive Map

Seismic Data

The Library’s primary archive is that of 2D and 3D seismic data covering England, Scotland and Wales. With over 87,000 km of 2D seismic data and more than 2,900 sq km of 3D seismic survey data acquired from the onshore exploration of oil, gas and coal in the UK, the Library strives to locate all available data items pertaining to each seismic profile, with the aim of providing a fully reconciled archive of:

  • Original pre-stack field records de-multiplexed to SEGY
  • Supporting scanned observers reports and associated aquisition documents
  • Line location data in UKOOA format
  • Processed post-stack and migrated data in SEGY
  • Hardcopy and scanned seismic sections

British Geological Survey and Mining Remediation Authority – 2D & 3D Seismic Data

UKOGL in collaboration with the British Geological Survey (BGS) provides access to onshore seismic surveys held by the BGS. These include:

  • Pre- and post-stack data for surveys shot for the BGS and its predecessors
  • Post-stack data for Mining Remediation Authority (formerly the Coal Authority) surveys acquired by the National Coal Board (NCB), its successor, the British Coal Corporation (BCC) and private coal companies

Regional Profiles

UKOGL has compiled a series of reprocessed composite profiles, providing a new regional insight across the UK. Current profiles are:

UKOGL also has access to a number of historical merged profiles, compiled by operators previously active onshore in the UK. Unlike the UKOGL profiles, these are made available in their original form without any additional processing.

Seismic Navigation Data

The UK Onshore 2D and 3D navigation data supplied by UKOGL is based upon the UK (British) National Grid. The shapefiles of the exploration coverage that are available for download below have been resampled from the archive to provide a general 2D line or 3D survey location:

Well Data

UKOGL provides basic metadata, well tops, composite log headers, scanned paper well logs and reports, time-depth tables and where appropriate directional information for oil and gas, coal authority and other key deep wells.

LAS Data

The Library has a growing database of digital log data in LAS format

Bottom Hole Temperatures

UKOGL has generated a listing of temperatures recorded by logging runs and testing from well data for UK Onshore wells. The listing can be downloaded in Excel format here and has been integrated into the BGS geothermal database.

Reports

Industry Reports

The UKOGL Industry Reports Archive has been compiled from documents submitted to the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) and its predecessors under onshore licensing regulations and includes Applications, on-going Licence activities, Relinquishments and Field Development Plans.

Regional and Government Studies

This compilation pulls together a number of key regional based studies as carried out by UK government departments, the British Geological Survey and other partner organisations, covering such topics as Prospectivity Assessments, Shale Studies and Unconventional Resources.

The Library also provides access to an extensive range of associated imagery, reports, maps and  information via the page (see sidebar) and the UKOGL  Interactive Map
